Thirteen years ago…
dairy-free ice cream was hard to come by.
The only option was soy based.
And it was certainly alright, we were grateful to have it.
But it was basically vanilla or ice cream sandwiches to choose from.
I just wanted more variety for my then toddler with milk allergies.
So I started experimenting and discovered that homemade ice cream is really quite simple to make.
A basic gel ice cream machine was the ticket to all kinds of creations our whole family loved.
And although much has changed in a decade…
with many more dairy-free ice cream options now available at the store…
we still love making our own creations at home.
1. We can concoct just about any flavor our heart desires.
2. We have the choice of several dairy-free milks like soy, coconut, almond, oat and pea!
3. We can make as much as we want, no portion skimping.
4. We save money by making our own!
With a basic gel ice cream machine (affiliate link) like this one,
it’s awesome that I don’t have to mess with ice or salt.
I just keep the canister in my freezer for when we need a frozen treat in 30 minutes.
Sounds fun, right?! Next, we often get asked about ice cream cones.
And I have to say, with milk and nut allergy, we have found many that work for us.
However, I don’t call companies for processing information generally.
So be sure to do that if you need to.
We have used both Aldi and Target brand cones.
My kids definitely like the cake cones better than waffle cones.
Here’s one box with the ingredients shown for you.
Always check labels, ingredients can change.

We have definitely enjoyed these waffle bowls found at Target, though. 🙂
