Why on earth did it take me so long to create chocolate?!

Afterall…

my kids know if I could take one food with me on a stranded island…

it would be chocolate.

No, I don’t take island heat and melting chocolate into consideration.

This is all pretend.

But what you DO want melting is this dairy-free chocolate ice cream in your mouth, yo.

We absolutely love having our gel ice cream maker frozen and ready in the freezer.

That way, anytime we want ice cream, we can have some ready in 30 minutes.

Milk allergy life ain’t so bad.

And you can make your homemade chocolate ice cream with your base of choice.

It just depends on what dairy-free milk and coffee creamer you want to use.

POSSIBLE ICE CREAM BASES

Soy

Coconut

Almond

Cashew

Oat

Pea

My goodness, the options are plenty these days!

I love using So Delicious coconut milk and creamer.

But my kids also love yummy pea protein ice cream using Ripple, too.

Ripple now makes both milk and creamer that will work in this recipe.

And Ripple is so thick, your ice cream will be extra creamy if you can go the pea ice cream route!

For this dairy-free chocolate ice cream shown in the photo,

In this recipe, I used:

Unsweetened So Delicious Coconut Milk

Unsweetened So Delicious Coconut Creamer

1/4 cup raw sugar

But the full directions and recipe are below.

Use whatever milk and creamer work for you.

And then decide if it needs the 1/4 cup of sugar.

It depends on how sweet your milk and creamer are before adding optional sugar.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

Sugar content varies by which creamer and milk you use. Feel free to taste the mixture before adding the 1/4 cup of sugar and see if it’s already sweet enough. You can easily omit the sugar from this recipe.

Sometimes we chill the mixture in the freezer for 15 minutes before churning and/or chill the finished ice cream in the freezer for 15 minutes before eating.

Experiment a little and you’ll find a good system to get the best texture depending on the ingredients you choose.

It’s easy to find cones that are dairy-free and allergy-friendly. Cake and waffle cones are one of our Aldi staples and waffle bowls are one of our Target snacks. Or serve in a dish!

HOW TO MAKE DAIRY-FREE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM

Put mixture in the freezer for 15-30 minutes to get it really cold. (optional)

Remove mixture from freezer and pour the mixture into your ice cream maker.

Churn according to your machine directions. Ours takes about 30 minutes in our small gel machine.

If you want the ice cream firmer for cones, cover container and put the ice cream in the freezer for another 15-30 minutes. (optional)

If you have any leftovers, freeze it for later. Put the leftover ice cream in your blender before serving in order to make it creamy again.
