Frozen Vegan Cakes At Aldi

Finding new plant-based foods at Aldi is so exciting.

And this one did not disappoint. Vegan, plant-based, frozen cakes!

These appear to be a seasonal item at Aldi, posted on their Facebook page at the end of March.

Our food allergy family can have two of the three flavors.

See flavors and ingredients below.

Even though we wish these frozen plant-based cakes were at Aldi year-round…

we can’t complain that they seem to pop up right before Easter.

Because carrot cake is one of the three flavors, and it’s delicious!

Vegan cream cheese frosting, amazing right?

Hubby just told me he will pass on making our dairy-free carrot cake for Easter this year because he saw this frozen cake in our freezer.

And he knows it’s good enough for even Easter.

Plus, shredding carrots for homemade cake can be quite tedious.

This shortcut is very welcome!

Here are the ingredients on the Aldi carrot cake.

Oh is this chocolate-lover a huge fan of the plant-based chocolate cake.

We also bought this one last year and devoured every last bite.

I remember telling hubby this was right up there with fancy flourless cake I get at the local French bakery.

Although this isn’t flourless, it has that rich, rich texture.

The icing again is a cream cheese icing, dairy-free of course.

But it tastes like a mousse to me.

Again, double-check labels for yourself. Ingredients can change. And call Aldi if you need manufacturing information. Our allergist does not require us to call.

Last up is the flavor we haven’t tried.

It’s banana, and it contains walnuts.

Now I know why I didn’t buy this flavor the first year I saw it.

Alas, I made an allergy mom mistake assuming this had just the same three allergens as the other two flavors.

Thank goodness we allergy moms know to check labels at least three times:

  • when buying
  • when storing
  • when making

Caught walnuts on the label while putting this cake in my freezer. Eeeeep!

So we will need to give this to a friend or save it for a mom and dad night.

Here are the ingredients on the box of banana cake.

As always, double-check labels and call companies if necessary.

I love that these frozen Aldi cakes contain:

  • no artificial colors
  • no artificial flavors
  • no high fructose corn syrup
  • no dairy
  • no egg

These vegan cakes at Aldi do contain:

  • wheat
  • soy
  • coconut

Although our son has a severe tree nut allergy, he thankfully can have coconut.

So the two cakes without walnut work for us: carrot and chocolate.

And while these are a bit pricey,

I figure buying them once a year is a valid splurge for the family.

One less homemade treat I have to make and definitely delicious enough to buy!

I’m not sure I’d stock up a freezer with them…

but the price is worth sharing dessert with vegan friends or those with food allergies.

Let us know if you’ve tried Aldi’s frozen vegan cakes and what flavors.
