Despite having milk allergy, we adore s’mores around here.
And nothing is easier than the dairy-free s’mores trail mix my kids have enjoyed since they were toddlers.
It’s also great for school lunch boxes.
See below for our dairy-free version and many more milk-free s’mores ideas, too.
PLEASE NOTE: Here at Milk Allergy Mom, we simply share products that work for our family. Please consult your own doctor before trying food, supplements, or other products. Also read all labels and call companies for the latest, most accurate product information.
It is true, we figured out how to make s’mores safe for our food allergies many years ago.
From icing s’mores to toaster oven s’mores to cereal bar s’mores…
we sure were not going to miss out on this chocolate goodness at our house.
In fact, we have a fun post of six dairy-free s’mores ideas that you should definitely check out.
But there’s one way to make a delicious graham cracker, marshmallow, chocolate snack that’s very mess-free…
and even small kids can make it themselves.
Mine have been for years.
It’s s’mores trail mix!
See the ingredients below.
S’MORES TRAIL MIX
Here are the ingredients we include for our dairy-free snack mix. Always double-check labels for yourself because ingredients can change. Also call companies for the latest manufacturing information, if need be.
chocolate – Of course, you need to make sure the chocolate is dairy-free for milk allergy. And one of our favorite brands is Enjoy Life. I especially like to use their larger chocolate chunks for this trail mix. The mini chocolate chips are harder to handle. And not surprisingly, my kids really like the big chocolate chunks.
marshmallows – For this trail mix, mini marshmallows are going to be your best bet. Many mainstream marshmallows are dairy-free, but of course double-check labels. However, our very favorite mini marshmallows are natural marshmallows by Dandies. They are seriously delicious, and I don’t even like marshmallows. We LOVE and even eat plain these natural marshmallows.
graham crackers – One of the first dairy-free treats my boys had as toddlers was Teddy Grahams. It was even in their first Easter baskets, I remember. Definitely check the labels for yourself. But if you can have them, they work great in our s’mores trail mix. The snack bag has smaller ones than the box, and that’s what I have shown in the picture in this post. Little mini teddies. We get ours with our Walmart snacks.
Mix your three s’mores ingredients together in whatever ratios you prefer.
Store your dairy-free s’mores mix in airtight containers or individual baggies.
It saves a lot of time to make up several snack baggies at once to throw in lunches when you need them or for the kids to grab after school.
These days, I put my kiddo’s trail mix in his bento lunches.
And if you’re at home, your kids will love the trail mix in a cone that my kiddo invented several years ago. Or a little bowl will do, too.
Sometimes, we use Golden Grahams cereal instead of Teddy Grahams. Check the labels for yourself, but we’ve enjoyed this cereal at our house for years. It’s a great mini graham cracker option, too. Golden Grahams also makes for the most amazing cereal pan s’mores!
Hope you get to try dairy-free s’mores trail mix and that you love it as much as we do!
