Celery Ants-On-A-Log Dairy-Free
Celery ants-on-logs are a fun sandwich alternative for school lunch.
If your school or child is peanut-free, maybe alternatives like seed or cookie butter will work.
You could even skip the peanut butter altogether and just put raisins on the celery.

Anyone else have fond childhood memories of ants-on-a-log?
I turn 40 this year, and I vividly remember being served this special treat in 4-year-old preschool.
I can't remember what I did yesterday, but I sure can remember ants-on-logs from nearly four decades ago.
I know, be impressed.
That's why I love to serve this treat up to my own kids.
Ants-on-logs are interesting in that you may like them even if you don't like raisins, celery, or peanut butter.
I don't like raisins OR celery plain, but I still love ants-on-logs. So weird.
This is my pickiest son's favorite snack.
And my other son hates celery plain...but will eat these.
So even if you turn your nose up at any of these ingredients,
you should still try them together and make sure you can't be converted...
as long as they are safe for your allergies, of course.
If you can't have peanut butter, use your safe substitute like perhaps nut butter, seed butter, or even cookie butter.
ANTS-ON-LOGS BENTO BOX
Here's what's in our ants-on-logs bento lunch box.
Make sure all these items are safe for your food allergies. Always check labels. Call companies if need be. Be safe!
- celery spread with peanut butter (or substitute)
- raisins
- cherry tomatoes
- apple slices
- crackers
- cookies dairy-free
In my bento box, I put the raisins to the side so kiddo could have plenty of them and so he could put the ants on the logs himself.
My favorite peanut butter is Smucker's natural with no added sugar. Again, use your safe substitute if you can't do peanut butter.
Some of our favorite crackers.
And here are some of our favorite healthier, vegan cookies.
HOW TO MAKE ANTS-ON-LOGS
1. Cut celery ribs into 3 inch sticks.
2. Wash and dry celery well.
3. Fill the celery ribs with peanut butter or your safe substitute.
4. Line raisins along the peanut butter.
