Chocolate Mousse Dairy-Free

This dairy-free chocolate mousse is made with just three simple ingredients.

Allergy-friendly and a healthy snack. See the easy chocolate mousse recipe below!

bowl of dairy free chocolate mousse

To make chocolate mousse, we simply use our dairy-free whipped cream recipe and add cocoa.

For all the milk allergy moms who ask for healthy fat ideas for their kiddos, this is a great option.

If you’ve never opened a can of coconut milk, it’s always a fun little surprise.

Usually you’ll be greeted with both a white solid part at the top and clear liquid underneath.

You just never know how much you’ll get of each, ha ha.

For our whipped cream and chocolate mousse, we want the white solid fatty part from the top.

Save the clear liquid to make a strawberry smoothie

The trick to this recipe is to choose your sweetener based on the texture of the coconut fat.

If it’s dry, add a liquid sweetener like syrup.

If it’s runny, add a dry sweetener like brown sugar.

This is to get it to the right texture.

Also, if you buy the better brands of coconut milk,

you can skip overnight refrigeration and make mousse right when opening the can.

We can usually make mousse right away when using this brand (affiliate).

Here’s the recipe below.

  • can of full fat coconut milk (the solid portion)
  • sweetener of choice
  • cocoa powder

Open the can of coconut milk without shaking beforehand.

If there’s not white solid fat on the top of the can, let it sit in the refrigerator overnight.

When you have white fatty coconut milk at the top of the can, spoon it out and put it in a small bowl.

Store the liquid portion in a separate container in the refrigerator, use in smoothies later.

Whisk sweetener of choice into the bowl of canned coconut milk fat to taste. Stevia, brown sugar, sugar, maple syrup, agave, coconut sugar are all good options.

Whisk in cocoa powder to taste.

Hope you enjoy this easy dairy-free chocolate mousse as much as we do!
