DUTCH OVEN FOR MAKING POPCORN

First up, for the best tasting homemade popcorn, we pop our popcorn in this 6 quart Dutch oven (affiliate).

Yet, another reason to own a versatile Dutch oven! Here are some of the things we make in ours.

When we make popcorn in our Dutch oven, rarely are more than 3 kernels left un-popped in the bottom. No breaking teeth on kernels. We’ll tell you how with easy steps below.

Here are both my Dutch ovens, well loved in their stains and all.

Beyond the Dutch oven, making the perfect tasting popcorn also requires good, quality ingredients.

Here are the ingredients we use to make this a nutritious snack.

1. BEST POPCORN FOR POPPING

At our house, we always buy organic popcorn to pop.

Overall, popcorn isn’t expensive.

So choosing organic doesn’t cost too much extra, either.

It’s still a cheap, affordable snack…organic or not.

2. BEST OIL FOR POPPING CORN

We use coconut oil, not vegetable oil.

It’s a healthy fat that gives popcorn a light, unique taste.

In fact, it tastes buttery. But it’s not butter. Ha!

We’ve turned so many friends and family onto popping popcorn in coconut oil and ditching added butter.

If you can have coconut, you’ll love this!

3. BEST SALT FOR POPCORN

Pink Himalayan salt is a must!

I highly recommend Himalayan or at least sea salt if you want to take this popcorn to the next level.

Regular table salt just won’t do.

4. BEST SUGAR FOR POPCORN

We could stop with organic popcorn, coconut oil, and Himalayan salt.

But if you want to add a little sweetness, coconut sugar is where it’s at!

I use about a tablespoon of coconut sugar per batch.

Just toss it in last after the salt.

It’s sort of like healthy kettle corn!

Dairy-Free Kettle Popcorn

STOVETOP DUTCH OVEN POPCORN DAIRY-FREE

INGREDIENTS

1/3 cup organic popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons coconut oil
pink Himalayan salt to taste
1 tablespoon coconut sugar (optional)

DIRECTIONS

Pull out a 6-quart pot with a lid.

Heat oil and 3 kernels in the large pot, on medium high heat, with lid on.

When the 3 kernels pop, take off the lid and put 1/3 cup kernels into the oil.

Place the lid back on the pot, give the pot a little shake to coat all the kernels in the oil, and remove from the stove heat for 30 seconds.

Then return the pot to burner, medium-high heat, with it’s lid on.

Listen for kernels to begin popping.

Remove pot from the heat when popping ends or slows significantly.

Remove lid and sprinkle with salt and coconut sugar (optional) to taste.

Enjoy with friends and family.

Hope you love this stovetop popcorn as much as we do!

Also be sure to see our popular popcorn ball recipe.

It contains no corn syrup and is just as yummy. Another healthy popcorn recipe we think you’ll like!
