This no milk, no egg banana bread recipe was probably the very first recipe I created for my kiddo with food allergies.

And it's been a top recipe here at Milk Allergy Mom for decades.

Such a nostalgic food at our house.

My boys loved it as toddlers and still gobble it up as teens.

We are so glad our readers love it as much as we do!

NO MILK & NO EGG

Our dairy-free and egg-free banana bread recipe is especially nice for food allergy families...

because it doesn't even call for milk.

No milk substitute needed.

And it requires just one egg that's easily replaced with 3 tablespoons of applesauce.

Perfect for dairy and egg allergies!

Feel free to use one egg instead of applesauce if you can.

This recipe is also great for those who find themselves wanting to bake but not having milk or egg on hand.

Or just save your eggs for something else, they are getting expensive!

BANANA BREAD ADD-IN'S

Although banana bread definitely stands alone on its own, you can also spice things up with add-in's like these.

  • dairy-free chocolate chips
  • your favorite nuts if not allergic
  • brown sugar sprinkled on top before baking

You can always leave it as is, too.

We do most of the time.

GIVE THE GIFT OF BANANA BREAD

Even consider making mini-loaves as gifts for new moms, new neighbors, and Christmas.

Your friends and family will love you!

BANANA BREAD MUFFINS

If you want banana bread faster, consider putting the batter into muffin tins instead.

This means you can enjoy in half the time.

And if it's summer, your oven won't be on as long.

This muffin pan (affiliate) is my absolute favorite.

It's what I always use to make our dairy-free and egg-free banana bread muffins.

It's no stick and no need for wrappers when I'm just making a snack for home.

This is the easiest muffin pan to clean, too!

LOWER SUGAR BANANA BREAD

Our original recipe called for ¾ cup of white sugar.

But some readers have tried less sugar with success!

So we gave it a whirl, too. And we agree, less sugar banana bread bakes up just fine and tastes just as delicious.

As a result, you'll notice our recipe now gives you a range on the sugar amount to choose from.

We hope you like the flexibility in this recipe.

BANANA BREAD RECIPE

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Makes 1 loaf or 12 muffins.

DRY INGREDIENTS

1.5 cups all purpose flour
1.5 teaspoon baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
⅛ teaspoon salt

WET INGREDIENTS

1 egg or 3 tablespoons applesauce
1 cup mashed bananas (2-3 bananas)
½ or ¾ cup sugar (your preference)
¼ cup melted coconut oil or vegetable oil

DIRECTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Grease a loaf pan or muffin tin with dairy-free butter or use your favorite non-stick pan without greasing.

In a medium bowl, combine: 1.5 c. flour, 1.5 tsp. baking powder, ¼ tsp. baking soda, ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon, ⅛ tsp. salt.

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.

In a small bowl, mix together: 3 tbs. applesauce or 1 egg, 1 c. mashed bananas, ½ or ¾ c. sugar (your preference), ¼ c. melted coconut or vegetable oil.

If the coconut oil hardens, heat the oil mixture in the microwave until the coconut oil is melted and the liquid mixture is smooth.

Add the wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients. Fold together until fully combined.

Move the mixture to your bread pan.

Bake 40-50 minutes until a wooden toothpick comes out clean from the center.

Keep the bread in the pan and cool on a wire rack.

Once cooled, store covered at room temperature for a few days.

The flavors meld together better by the second day, but many can't wait that long to dig in. HA!

Hope you enjoy this eggless dairy-free banana bread as much as we have for seventeen years!

You can save this bread on Pinterest for later.

  1. This recipe! This recipe is a family favourite, I cannot tell you how many batches I’ve made over the years. I first found you when in 2019 my son was diagnosed with multiple allergies including egg and milk. My son is now six and we often bake this together. Our staple loaf is sprinkled with brown sugar but today I am experimenting with blueberry and lemon muffins ( omitted cinnamon)- I hope they turn out well! Ian so grateful to you for this recipe. Thank you

  5. I thought I had the best recipe for banana bread, but missed it because I can no longer have eggs or dairy. This banana bread is truly THE best I have ever had! I cannot believe how delicious it is! I have eaten two loaves almost entirely by myself! I looked forward to getting up in the morning just to have a piece (or two or three)! Try it toasted! I’m making more today with some walnuts. Yum!!

  6. This bread has been a GO TO for me since we got my sons milk and egg allergy diagnosed! My mom thinks it is the best banana bread ever!
    Thank you!!!!

    1. Hi Gina! The applesauce serves more as the egg than sweetener so I'm not so sure about that. But if you try it, let us know! 🙂
