Girl Scout Cookies
Girl Scout Cookies!
I never dreamed any would be safe for our anaphylactic milk allergy,
but kiddo has actually been eating some varieties safely in our area since 2008.

2013 GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
Since our son had these before and was eating a little "baked-in" milk every day per our allergist,
we let him have one cookie at a time. And he loved them.
In recent years, it's been even more helpful, with food allergies, that the Girl Scouts sell direct.
That means they have actual boxes in hand so we can check the labels when they're at our door and before we buy.
If you'd like to dig deeper on Girl Scout Cookie intel, be sure to head over to this post at Go Dairy Free.
I know now there are different factories that make the cookies and ingredients can vary by factory for even the same kind of cookie.
2018 GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
Here are the ingredients on the Thin Mint cookies we bought in 2018.
After doing your homework, if you still aren't comfortable consuming Girl Scout Cookies with food allergies,
check out our homemade mint cookie recipe that just requires 3 ingredients!
2022 GIRL SCOUT COOKIES
In 2022, our son also enjoyed two flavors in addition to Thin Mint.
Lemonades from ABC Bakers.
They contain wheat and soy and are manufactured with milk, peanut, and coconut. This is ok for our family because of our milk allergy therapy giving my son a little wiggle room for any cross contamination. Please talk to your allergist about this before consuming.
And I can't believe this one, but kiddo ate them fine.
Peanut Butter Patties from ABC Bakers.
Again, we are years into milk allergy therapy so that may help my kiddo eat these fine.
And we aren't allergic to peanut.
For more info about the current year's cookies, you can also visit the Girl Scout website.
Now I'll just sit and wait for a Girl Scout to stop by.
This was originally posted in February 2013.

I had the Lemonades, which are supposedly milk free and had a bad reaction. I really don't see anything else in the ingredient list that could have such an affect on me. Cross contamination is the only thing that makes sense.
Oh dear, I'm sorry. Thanks for sharing.
Milking It, I'm so sorry. URG. Were they supposed to be the safe ones? I'm second thinking getting any this year. 🙁
My daughter has a serious milk allergy. She ate the Milk free Thin Mints, and reacted heavily. I guess the cross contamination is still serious enough to cause trouble for some. Just use caution and do little trials. Good luck!
We are in NH and last year, the girls scout Thin Mint cookies were diary free. This year they are not. I ordered some for my daughter and we were disappointed. Important lesson on reading labels!
Go Dairy Free says to check e-bay for milk-free versions. ??? Worth a shot if you really have a craving! 😉
Ours in CT do too! I was craving Thin Mints or any variety of GS cookie and all that my husband bought have whey in them. I'm dairy free right now for my 3 month old son who has milk allergy. A friend of mine sent me this gluten free Thin Mint recipe. It can be easily adapted to be dairy free. Haven't tried it yet, but she says they are delicious. Visit http://www.glutenfreebetsy.com and search for gluten free GS cookies. (I couldn't paste the URL.)
Our Thin Mints (in MN) have milk in them 🙁 maybe next year they'll adjust our recipe too!
I just checked my box and it says wheat and soy. I also discovered recently that a few Hy-Vee grocery store brand cookies are dairy free too...chocolate covered grahams and a chocolate milk cookie one that is like the girl scout thin mint. Also a chocolate covered marshmellow kind. My son was in heaven!
I was wondering about Girl Scout cookies. I've never taken the time to read the boxes! Thank you. 🙂
Thanks! I THOUGHT this was the first they had been dairy free. Worth checking with the company I think. Thanks, thanks for letting me know.
Be careful with the Thin Mints, our box says contains wheat, milk, and soy. Are there different versions depending on where people live? Seems strange.
