Slow Cooker Applesauce Dairy-Free
Making homemade applesauce in the slow cooker is perfect way to spend a crisp fall day,
especially when you find yourself with an abundance of apples.
Here's how we do it!
Life doesn't get any better than filling two large slow cookers with apples galore,
and binging on Antique Roadshow while enjoying the delicious aroma of cooked apples taking over your entire home.
Now that's what I call AUTUMN!
If you also find yourself with gobs of apples you can't eat fast enough,
definitely consider making your own applesauce.
HOW TO USE APPLESAUCE
We enjoy applesauce as a side dish, sprinkle with cinnamon if you'd like.
Applesauce also makes for a great egg replacer in many baked recipes.
I like to sprinkle powdered probiotic on our applesauce.
And kiddo really likes eating applesauce with his milk OIT dose.
HOW TO MAKE SLOW COOKER APPLESAUCE
- Wash apples well.
- Use an apple machine (affiliate) to cut, core, and slice apples quickly.
- Fill slow cooker up with thinly sliced apples.
- Add about 1 cup of water to a 6 quart crock filled with apples.
- Cook on high about 4 hours.
- After apples are cooked, mash by hand.
There's no need to drain the water before mashing.
And my kids love helping with the mashing part!
EXTRA TIPS
I've tried lemon juice to keep the sauce white, but it didn't work and wasn't worth it.
I've also added some cinnamon to a batch or two, but we really like it plain just as well.
HOW TO STORE HOMEMADE APPLESAUCE
Once our applesauce is cooked and smashed,
I let it cook completely.
Then I fill one quart freezer bags.
Seal and remove the air at the same time.
Label the bags with permanent marker, noting the date and that they contain applesauce.
Pat the bags flat and store flat in the freezer until needed.
If you find yourself with a plethora of apples, we hope you enjoy homemade applesauce as much as we do!

Do you usually store the applesauce in the fridge? How long will it last? Thanks!
Yes, I store a jar in the refrigerator. And freeze the rest in freezer bags after it's cooled. Remove the air and store them flat. 🙂
Great idea! Thank you!

Last year, I made spiced apple/pear sauce. It was sooo good! Plus, making in the crock make the house smell amazing!
