Nacho Cheese Sauce & Hamburger Horseshoes Dairy-Free

Horseshoe Dinner Dairy-Free

Ok friend,

I know you are here to talk dairy-free cheese sauce.

Understandable, we all love us some cheese!

And I promise I have the easiest recipe for you below.

But if you are wondering what the heck I poured this cheese sauce on…

we are going to cover that, too!

It’s called a horseshoe.

You may have no idea what a hamburger horseshoe is.

And that’s ok!

Actually, the likelihood that you would know is probably 1%. HA!

My friend, you have to be from where I live to know what a horseshoe with cheese sauce is!

However, you are in luck.

Not only am I going to share an easy cheese sauce recipe with you,

but I’m also going to share the secret of this popular midwestern meal today, too.

Woohoo!

Trust me, if you go into any restaurant in my town,

you can order a horseshoe.

And it’s what people from these parts order again and again.

And it’s what they come back for, too.

It’s a THING!

These things are delicious, and crazy filling.

PLUS, super kid-approved, obviously, lol.

Keep reading, you’ll thank me.

A HORSHOE IS A LAYERED MEAL

Start with toast on the bottom.

Thick Texas toast is preferred, but I always use safe sandwich bread instead.

Second layer is meat, like burger patties or sliced ham.

But where I live, people also use fried fish, chicken wings, bacon…almost any meat goes!

Third layer, fries.

And the top layer, creamy cheese sauce.

Yes, cheese sauce!

Even though I grew up on these,

that last ingredient really threw me once we had milk allergies to navigate.

But now thanks to all the vegan cheese options,

my kids can finally have horseshoes for dinner!

When you eat these, make sure you have a little of every layer on your fork.

It’s a divine combination, trust me on this.

HORSESHOE INGREDIENTS

Here are the horseshoe layers:

  • toasted slice of bread – on the plate
  • cooked burger patty – atop the toast
  • cooked fries – atop the burger
  • warm dairy-free cheese sauce – over the fries

See the cheese sauce recipe below…

whether you think you’re into the horseshoe or not, lol.

This sauce is great for nachos, big pretzels, fries, and so much more.

Milk allergy, schmallergy.

Let’s eat (dairy-free) cheese sauce!
