When my son was first diagnosed with allergies,
I remember trying a few dairy-free and egg-free brownie recipes.
But they turned out to be complete disasters.
Something about mashed bananas???
Then both boys outgrew egg allergies as toddlers…
and I was delighted to make Duncan Hines boxed brownies with egg.
Glory! Hallelujah!
Unfortunately, that convenience was short-lived.
Soon after, my oldest kiddo had an allergic reaction to cashew.
And all nuts had to now be avoided,
including box mixes from plants that have nut or milk in them. Dang.
So it was back to the drawing board to create a good homemade dairy-free brownie recipe that actually works.
No mashed banana allowed.
Now I’m happy to report, we have the perfect recipe!
Dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free brownies.
That taste like real homemade brownies from scratch, yeah baby!
And we’ve been making them since 2013.
These brownies are delicious plain.
Or enjoy them with dairy-free ice cream.
Or top them with icing and Oreos!
You choose.
Check labels on cookies or Oreos, first, of course.

1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1/3 cup dairy-free chocolate chips (affiliate)
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup coconut or canola oil
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE BROWNIES
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a square baking dish with dairy-free butter or coconut oil.
Whisk together the dry ingredients in a medium bowl: 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup cocoa powder, 1/3 cup dairy-free chocolate chips, 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon sea salt.
Add wet ingredients to the bowl: 1/2 cup water and1/3 cup oil.
Mix just until moistened.
Pat batter into greased square baking dish.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean 1 inch from the edge.
Don’t over-bake.
Since there’s no egg in this recipe, it’s best to let them cool before cutting into them.
HOW TO CUT BROWNIES
We all know brownies mangle easily when cutting, especially when they’re still warm.
The best tip I’ve used for cutting brownies cleanly is to use a plastic knife.
It won’t scratch your baking dishes.
AND it cuts the brownies clean, without the crumbles.
Hope you enjoy these dairy-free, egg-free, nut-free brownies as much as we do!

It says add flax mixture in the steps for making, but nothing about flax mixture in the ingredients ?

Sorry about that, Lauren! We just recently took the flax egg out of this recipe because I've made it with and without...and they turn out just as good without the flax egg. :) Thought we'd make the recipe even easier. The directions now reflect that, too.

My grandson can not have gluten either! Have you tried this with any other kind of flour (he can't have almonds either!)
