Kiddo's Ratings on Erin McKenna's Treats
Our family had the opportunity to visit allergy-friendly Erin McKenna's bakery again over Spring Break 2024.
And this time I asked my kiddo, who has dairy and tree nut allergies, to rank a handful of baked treats for you!
He sure didn't complain about leaving with a box of goodies for the whole week.
Here's what he chose and how he ranked them over his senior year spring break!
IMPORTANT NOTE
Even at Disney with chefs and staff trained in food allergies, those with severe allergies must still utilize due diligence. Always talk to staff, inquire about ingredients, double-check the food, use your best judgement, and take any other precautions necessary to make sure you stay safe while eating out.
ABOUT ERIN MCKENNA'S BAKERY
The last time we enjoyed Erin McKenna's at Disney Springs was in the fall of 2019.
Kiddo wasn't even in high school yet, and now here we were...celebrating his senior year spring break.
What better way than to hit Disney World and our favorite bakery, even if it's over sixteen hours from home.
Erin McKenna's is a vegan bakery, no milk or egg. And they are nut-free, too.
According to their website, though, they do use Bob’s Red Mill flour produced in a facility that processes almonds, cashews, macadamia nuts, sesame seeds and hazelnuts.
This hasn't been a problem for us personally, as Bob's Red Mill has good manufacturing practices.
But as always, use your best judgement after doing your research.
The bakery does use coconut.
For our food allergy family, it's one of the best places ever!
My son can walk in and pick out whatever he wants. And boy, do I let him.
Erin McKenna's menu is also gluten-free. Although we don't need to avoid gluten, we still welcome all the treats as rare allergy-friendly options for our family.
HIGHLIGHTS
Here's what's to love about Erin McKenna's Bakery according to their website. All items are:
- dairy-free
- egg-free
- nut-free
- gluten-free
- soy-free
- refined sugar free
- kosher
- non-gmo
We make sure to hit up the bakery when we first arrive in Orlando. Then kiddo picks enough treats for the week.
Here's what my son chose this time and how he rated them.
#6 WHOOPIE PIE
The whoopie pie was quite large with plenty of chocolate buttercream in the middle.
It was nice and soft, not too sweet.
Kiddo chose to eat this one first on his way out of the shop.
#5 COFFEE CAKE
Then kiddo enjoyed this colorful blueberry coffee cake for breakfast the next morning, out on the balcony with a cup of coffee.
Cinnamon crumble PLUS icing drizzle?
Does life get any better?
#4 CARAMEL BROWNIE
I'm not surprised kiddo chose this treat to try.
Dairy-free caramel is so hard to find. He mostly just enjoys my homemade caramel.
But this brownie was a winner!
You can see the richness through the screen.
Caramel, chocolate chips, chocolate crackle, and vanilla icing...plus the brownie, of course.
#3 CINNAMON ROLL
Ok, this was a fail. Not the treat, just my picture.
Kiddo ate about ¾ of the cinnamon roll before I snapped a photo.
This was another day's breakfast for my son.
He does like my homemade cinnamon rolls better (that aren't gluten-free), but this was still amazing to eat at Disney!
It was huge, and it took my son a couple days to eat.
#2 CARROT CAKE
Oh boy, kiddo really liked this one!
I make an easy homemade carrot cake even with dairy-free cream cheese icing...
but four layers and ALL that icing? My son was in heaven.
I remember even asking, is that TOO much icing? Ha ha.
There WAS quite a bit of frosting left after the cake was gone, but really this was just so beautiful.
The vegan cream cheese frosting was really tasty!
And finally, kiddo's top pick for Erin McKenna's dairy-free, egg-free, vegan, nut-free, and gluten-free treats in 2024...
#1 PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN CAKE
This may surprise you, it did me.
I was shocked kiddo even picked this out of the Erin McKenna's treat case.
There's so much chocolate to choose from! HA HA!
But I shouldn't have been surprised.
One, my son has never had this kind of cake, and he loves to try new things!
Two, my son does like pineapple things. He has oral allergy syndrome (OAS) to fresh pineapple so anytime he can get cooked pineapple, he's all for it.
For example, kiddo's favorite pizza is pineapple and ham.
But wow, he rated this vegan pineapple upside down cake as his number one fave!
I guess when it comes to his taste, no chocolate is required (unlike with me).
We hope you get to visit Erin McKenna's Bakery sometime and that you love it as much as we do.
