jar of homemade vegan french dressing

Even though some store-bought salad dressings look ok for milk allergy, it's just too darn easy to make this one myself.

And it's my son's favorite!

Dairy-free French dressing, so good.

Or as kiddo called it as a toddler, red dressing.

And it truly does taste better than bottled.

To get the best tangy taste, my secret ingredient is apple cider vinegar.

Not just any vinegar will do!

After I whip some up, I store it in a small ball jar in the refrigerator.

Perfect for when fresh lettuce is growing in our garden!

Spring salads made with garden lettuce and homemade dressing are just the best.

WHAT SALADS USE FRENCH DRESSING

We love to use this dressing on three salads especially, all kid-approved:

  • spinach, mushroom, cooked bacon
  • garden leafy lettuce with fresh garden sugar snap peas
  • taco salad with tortilla chips

Here's our yummy, dairy-free taco salad that even my picky kiddo will eat.

WHAT IF THE DRESSING SOLIDIFIES

When I store our homemade French dressing in the refrigerator, it solidifies.

So I just make sure I set it out for a bit before I want salad.

Then it liquifies again and I can shake or whisk it to emulsify and blend it again.

It's worth this extra step to have the delicious taste of homemade dressing!

FRENCH DRESSING DAIRY FREE

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons honey
1-2 teaspoons hot water
½ c. olive oil
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
3 tablespoons ketchup
⅛ tsp. onion powder

DIRECTIONS

In a small jar, dissolve 2 tablespoons of honey in 1-2 teaspoons of hot water to make a liquid honey syrup.

Add the rest of the ingredients and place a tight lid on the jar.

Gently shake the ingredients until fully mixed and emulsified. Or you can whisk or blend the ingredients together, instead.

Keep the dressing refrigerated in the jar, covered with a tight lid for up to a week.

When using, let the dressing sit out to room temp just until it can easily be shaken, whisked, or stirred together again.

Serve over salad of your choice.
