Our Milk Allergy Treatment (OIT)

As some of you may know, my kiddo has been in milk allergy treatment since he was eleven years old. 

It's called oralimmunotherapy or OIT for short. 

We've been blessed with an allergist here in our town who was one of the first to offer this cutting edge treatment. 

OIT isn't a cure. But it's a slow desensitization to various food allergens. 

At minimal, families go through this personalized treatment for bite-proof protection. 

Then in some cases, children can develop such a tolerance that they can eat their allergens freely. 

It's important to know that this must be done under the care and direction of a board certified allergist. 

And my son, even though he has a little dairy every day now, must always carry his epinephrine with him. 

Our allergist has taken us through a very low and slow process of desensitizing my son's milk allergy, based on his history, needs, and goals. 

And we were very happy to share about this journey with our local television news station.
