My teen would be content with a cold ham sandwich for school lunch almost every day.

But I sure don’t want him to burn out on a good thing like that.

So some days I do this one little tweak that changes the whole dynamic of his lunch.

Clubhouse sandwich with ham AND turkey.

When I grab a lunch out to eat myself, I often opt for a club sandwich.

Toasted bread, layers of meat, lettuce, mayo…it’s definitely far from bland.

And double layer with three pieces of bread…now that’s prime time.

My kiddo can use all the carbs he can get these days, with all the intense sports he does like soccer and track.

Here’s how I make a club sandwich dairy-free for his allergies and still super tasty.

It’s easier than you might think.

To make our club sandwiches, we start with our favorite dairy-free bread.

This dairy-free bread works great for us. But always double check labels as ingredients can change.

Pictured in this post is a club sandwich using just two pieces of bread.

That’s because I wanted to show what would work for a toddler lunch.

We get asked about toddler lunches so often.

However, my big boys love three pieces of bread and two layers of meat and all the goodness.

You can make them either way.

The best part is the toasted bread, two or three pieces.

So before you make your club sandwich, with two or three pieces of bread, make sure you give it a good toast in your toaster or toaster oven.

Toddlers may like it less toasted and a little softer.

Then build your sandwich with some of these yummy ingredients.

  • ham
  • turkey
  • lettuce
  • tomato
  • mayonnaise

Make sure these ingredients are safe for your food allergies. Mayo can contain egg if you don’t use vegan mayo.

In addition, I do leave out the bacon that’s typical in club sandwiches. I’m just not a fan of cold bacon sitting in a school lunch for hours.

But if you make these at home, fresh cooked bacon would be a delicious addition!

It’s like having the treat of a BLT bacon sandwich without having to use too much bacon, which is expensive these days.

Here’s what we packed in our dairy-free bento box.

Make sure all these items are safe for your food allergies.

Always check labels. Call companies if need be. Be safe!

  • ham & turkey club sandwich
  • veggie straws
  • pickle spear
  • fruit strip
  • dairy-free chocolate candies

Here’s our favorite lunch meat to use.

These are the all natural fruit strips

And these allergy-friendly M&M type candies are so good!

Here’s another dairy-free chocolate candy option, too.

The veggie straws are a good option for my son who suffers oral allergy syndrome with many fresh vegetables.

Sadly, something more processed works better for him. No pollen.

But he’s a huge fan of the pickle spear at lunch.

Pickles are best put in their own baggy so juice doesn’t get all over the rest of the lunch.

Bento boxes work so well for taking your own lunch to school and work.
