Are Poptarts Dairy-Free?
Are Poptarts dairy-free? Well, it depends. Let's chat!

PLEASE NOTE: Here at Milk Allergy Mom, we simply share products that work for our family. Please consult your own doctor before trying food, supplements, or other products. Also read all labels and call companies for the latest, most accurate product information before consuming.
Oh my goodness,
why am I just now writing this blog post?
We have been eating Poptarts (affiliate) for over a decade!
BUT!
Not all flavors are safe for our milk allergy.
So let me show you the ones my kids have been eating for 12 years.
And hopefully these may work for you, too.
We also have nut allergies.
And be sure to scroll all the way down for a dye-free option we recently found, too!
While I know Poptarts aren't the most nutritious breakfast option ever known to man,
it's definitely a fun treat for the kids...
and a convenient option for vacation, caregivers, etc.
Not to mention, imagine how normal you will feel! 😉
So let's get to some dairy-free Poptart flavors and labels, shall we?
As always, read labels for yourself as ingredients can change.
Starting with fruit flavors...
My youngest likes frosted Strawberry Poptarts best. (affiliate)
Unfrosted Strawberry should work, too.
I wish I had won the no-frosting battle years ago.
It's a lost cause.

My husband loves cherry Poptarts best.

Maybe blueberry would be my favorite Poptart flavor.
But I don't eat them.
I'd rather eat real frozen blueberries.
Here is blueberry flavor.

This bulk box of fruit flavors is pretty handy.
And often a good value, too.
I get this box on Walmart Pick-Up.
Super convenient!
Now this is the favorite of my food allergy kiddo.
Brown Sugar Poptarts (affiliate)
Sometimes they can be found dual packaged, strawberry and brown sugar. (affiliate)
Then both kids are happy.

NON-GMO POPTARTS
Now here's the exciting part.
The other day I was in a discount bread store with my kids,
and one of the boys pointed out this different looking Poptart box.
What do you know...
Non-GMO poptarts!
For real?
That kind of seems like an oxymoron, but sure!
When I posted this new find in our membership group,
one of our dye-free mamas pointed out that these contain no artificial coloring.
And she was so excited to hunt these down for her dye-free kiddos.
See the ingredients below.
It's still a long list...
But again, sometimes food allergy families just want a normal treat.
I found these at Walmart. 🙂

SOME LIKE IT HOT, SOME LIKE IT COLD
Now here's the real question, allergy friend.
Do you eat Poptarts hot or cold?
I grew up eating them toasted, always.
But when my kids were toddlers, I somehow skipped that step.
Probably because we mostly ate these on the road.
So now my boys think Poptarts are supposed to be eaten cold.
Blasphemy!
PREFER HOMEMADE POPTARTS?

Thiamine, Niacin, and Riboflavin are part of the Vitamin B complex. Yes they are in meat and dairy products but they are not milk proteins. Thank you for this! My son will be very happy to have these added to his list of breakfast foods he can eat!
They make so many dairy varieties that I just assume the few dairy-free ones are still same equipment/"may contain." (Anybody know?)
Hi Kristen. I personally don't call many companies over 14 years so definitely do if you need to.
Hi, I don’t want this to come across rude or anything but all of these still contain milk and are not safe for people with dairy allergies. Thiamine, Niacine, and Riboflavin are all dairy proteins and are not safe for people allergic to dairy. This is just from my own personal experience, it might not affect everyone the same but it is still dairy. I hope this doesn’t sound rude, I just wanted to make sure you knew this.
@Aleigha,
Thank you. I didn’t know these specific items were dairy protein. Explains a lot for me. I have dairy tree nut and shellfish allergies and I’m 58. I didn’t have these allergies initially I found out last year I have these. It’s awful but thankful for the items that I can enjoy
Hi Pam, we are so glad you're here finding recipes and foods that work for you. 🙂 I hope you get our emails! We are here to help. xo
My children have milk & egg allergies, but my daughter also has a soy allergy, so PopTarts are a no for her. Buy, my son loves them. Another milk, egg free option is the Hot Fudge Sundae flavor. I know it sounds like it would have milk, but it doesn't!!
We have not tried that flavor! It's so hard to believe, but I have heard that. Thank you for sharing!
