If you aren’t familiar with canned coconut milk, it’s a very interesting thing.

It’s made up of both liquid and solid.

And both parts can be used in a variety of ways.

We use the liquid part for smoothies.

We use the thick part for chocolate mousse or whipped cream.

See the dairy-free coconut whipped cream recipe below!

FAVORITE BRAND OF CANNED COCONUT MILK

Thai Kitchen (affiliate) is my favorite brand of canned coconut milk because it has a good amount of solid coconut fat and great consistency.

It’s not clumpy or grainy like some other brands.

And oftentimes, I don’t need to refrigerate it overnight to bring the fat to the top.

I give the can a little shake to see if liquid sloshes around.

If not, I open that baby up and get to work.

That means there’s plenty of solid at the top, ready to be creamed!

JUST TWO INGREDIENTS

You really can make dairy-free whipped cream with just two ingredients.

First, you need the thick fatty part of canned coconut milk.

Second, you’ll want to sweeten it because canned coconut milk is unsweetened.

There are several sweeteners that work for making this whipped cream.

I mostly choose my sweetener depending on the consistency of the cream each time.

WHAT IS COCONUT WHIPPED CREAM SWEETENED WITH

Depending on how thick the creamed coconut is, here are a few different sweeteners we have blended in with it.

  • honey
  • maple syrup
  • sugar
  • stevia

If the fat is extra firm, you may want to use a liquid sweetener or add in a little of the coconut water.

If the fat is a little too runny, use a dry sweetener like sugar or brown sugar. And it will solidify even more overnight.

HOW TO MAKE DAIRY-FREE COCONUT WHIPPED CREAM

Here are 7 easy steps for making dairy-free whipped cream:

  • open a can of full fat coconut milk, not light
  • spoon out the thick white substance and put in a small bowl
  • if fat was not at the top, cover with plastic and place in fridge overnight
  • save the liquid runny part back for smoothies, store in refrigerator
  • to finish off your whipped cream, whisk in your sweetener
  • enjoy the whipped, sweetened cream on favorite treats
  • store covered in the refrigerator for a couple days
